Senators Bill Nelson of Florida of the Senate Commerce Committee, Edward Markey of Massachusetts, Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut and Brian Schatz of Hawaii, have petitioned both the FCC and the FTC to seek an explanation from the communications industry giant Verizon pertaining to its use of "supercookies" that track mobile user patterns, apparently without their consent.  “This whole supercookie business raises the specter of corporations being able to peek into the habits of Americans without their knowledge or consent,” said Nelson.
