FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai in a news release just published revealed results of a recent outside survey of Americans regarding whether the White House plan for regulating the Internet was either understood, and if so whether or not it was supported. The results were quite telling. To begin, only 1 in 4 respondents knew what the term "net neutrality" meant. The majority did not want the government to use its authority to regulate the Internet like a phone utility. 85% supported a delay in any action until full disclosure is made to the public regarding the details of the plan. Of note, the polling organization is aligned with the Democratic Party. The future viability of the internet as a level playing field for direct online marketing and promotion of products and services is likely to be impacted by whatever course of action ensues.
