Ending a process originally reported last May, Google has purchased streamimg video platform Twitch for $1 billion. The service will join YouTube as Google builds out its video and live streaming business. Twitch, the brainchild of Justin Kan and Emmett Shear as a subsidiary of Justin.tv focused on gaming-related content, focuses on the use of the Web for live streaming events, especially for sports and concerts.
