New And Existing Homes Sales Fluctuate

Happenings: Mailinglists.com

New home sales are generally rebounding, but the pace is uneven over time and by region. The U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development reported sales of new single-family houses in February 2016 at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 512,000.  This is above the revised January rate of 502,000, but is 6.1 percent below the February 2015 estimate of 545,000. New home sales in the Northeast and Midwest declined in February 2016 versus January 2016, while the West showed strong gains.

After increasing to the highest annual rate in six months, Sales of existing homes declined sharply in February due to persistent low supply and (resulting) price growth in several sections of the country, according to the National Association of Realtors®. All four major regions experienced sales declines in February. Total existing home sales were down 7.1 % to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.08 million in February 2016 from 5.47 million in January 2016. Sales are still up 2.2% year over year.
